2009 Australian Retail Innovation of the Year

The 2009 Australian Retail Innovation of the Year (ARA President’s Award)

ALDI received the ARA President’s award when it was named 2009 Australian Retail Innovation Award for it’s initiative and leadership in:

Unit Pricing
ALDI became the first grocery retailer to introduce unit pricing across all our Australian stores in November
2007, so customers can easily compare value between products and pack sizes.

National pricing
In April 2008, ALDI was the first grocery retailer to offer consistent, national pricing across all its stores.

Percentage Daily Intake labeling
We are the first retailer in Australia to offer front-of-pack Percentage Daily Intake (%DI) labeling across our entire grocery range. Front-of-pack Percentage Daily Intake labeling enables shoppers to easily see what the key nutritional contents are of a particular product.

Maternity Leave
Last year, ALDI became the first grocery retailer to offer paid maternity leave to all employees. The provision of paid maternity leave on top of other benefits such as five weeks annual leave per year for salaried employees and salaries that are well above industry standards, are a great motivator for people to join the ALDI fold.

Instore innovations – store design and merchandising
ALDI stores are on average around 850m² (compared to an average 3000m² in other supermarkets) and all signage, store layout, merchandising and unique packaging design is planned to make the weekly shopping trip as quick and convenient as possible.

ALDI was also the category winner for the Food, drink and Grocery 2009 Australian Retailer of the Year.
