Top tips for a winning submission

  • - Ensure you have read, understood (and met!) the criteria for your particular award category.

  • - The questions within the criteria are to be used as guides to prompt answers – however, we recommend you try to address as many of the questions as possible. As long as you address the majority (if not all) of the questions, you can certainly focus on the questions that allow you and your business to really shine.

  • - Be creative! The judges are looking for informative and detailed answers, but they are also looking for the WOW factor when they judge your submission. Think outside the square in terms of presentation. You do not have to simply present a printed and bound submission - put your marketing hat on and show us something that demands attention.
  • - Ensure you understand the submission process. You must first submit your intention to nominate online before developing your actual submission. Once your submission is complete (and looking amazing!), send via post both soft (USB/CD) and hard (physical) copies of your submissions to the ARA offices.

  • - Ensure you are aware of closing dates - submissions must be received no later than COB Friday 16 May 2014!

2014 eftpos ARA Australian Retail Awards

For over 40 years now, the ARA Australian Retail Awards have celebrated and paid tribute to Australia's leading retailers.

Since it was reinvigorated in 2008, the ARA Australian Retail Awards program has brought successful retail players from the shop floor to the national stage. As Australia's only national retail award program, the ARA Awards have played a hand in helping many recipients achieve greater success.

The range of today’s coveted awards also highlights how far the awards program has come from its humble beginnings in the 1970s. Up until 2008, only a small selection of awards were available and the award ceremony itself was a very intimate affair. Today, the ARA strives to provide all award winners and finalists with the invaluable prize of recognition amongst their industry peers as well as in the national media.

We’ve got some exciting changes planned for the 2014 eftpos ARA Australian Retail Awards.

The 2014 Awards Breakfast is scheduled for Tuesday 15 July 2014 in Melbourne. Gather your friends, family and colleagues and join us in celebrating retails finest. Tickets will be on sale soon - keep an eye out on the website.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Winning the Graduate of the Year Award made me feel extremely confident and honoured. This award has given me a tremendous amount of exposure, respect and appreciation. This platform has given me an insight to the larger retail industry which I am a part of and the realisation of how important a role I play to contribute towards the progress, development and expansion of my organisation and the industry as a whole. The award also brought along other benefits, for instance an opportunity to meet, interact with and hear the senior leadership teams of the most reputed retail companies across Australia. This award has truly rewarded all of my hard work and has further strengthened my leadership & management skills in a professionally elite manner. The ARA Awards have encouraged and motivated me to capitalise my potential in order to achieve similar awards in the future.

Piyush Bhanot - Expr3ss! Australian Retail Graduate of the Year 2013 - Certificate IV in Retail Management

Winning this award has meant a great deal to the entire Native Botanical team, and the regional communities in which we operate. We were both excited and humbled by the award. It was rewarding to have our hard work and commitment to excellence recognised in this way. Our profile has been raised throughout the region and increased our credibility both inside the flower industry and outside in broader retail.

Our team was particularly excited and the experience has drawn us closer together. We are determined to ensure we stay at the level which warranted us being regarded as the 2013 eftpos Australian Independent Retailer of the Year. My advice to those running their own business - have a great plan and don’t listen to dream-killers. Anything is possible with the right amount of planning, hard work and determination. Stephanie Cooke, Native Botanical – eftpos Australian Independent Retailer of the Year 2013
